Q: I
get an "EXE out of date" error. A: This is (normally) a HL problem caused by using Sierra's Auto Update utility to update Half-Life. You'll have to download and install the latest Half-Life patch manually, I'm afraid. |
Q:
My screen freezes when trying to start a Sven Co-op game. A: It's most likely that the Node Graph is being build... this happens the first time you run a particular map, and can make it seem as if Half-Life has frozen permanently. Try wating for 5 minutes or so. It's also possible that it's a weird Half-Life bug that only seems to effect a few people (including me... happens in other mods too). Everything actually loads and runs OK, but you just see a blank screen. To fix it, wait for quite a while so the map can finish loading, then press Escape twice. The HL menu should pop up. Click "Resume Game". |
Q:
The readme says to load Half-Life and click "Custom Game", but I
don't see a "Custom Game" button! A: Sounds like you have a very old version of Half-Life (you need a new version to use mods). You can get the latest version from the Planet Half-Life Files page. |
Q:
Does Sven Co-op support Opposing Force? A: Parts of Opposing Force have been added to Sven Co-op. You don't need Opposing Force installed to play as the files used are included. This doesn't mean that by downloading Sven Co-op you get the same content as Opposing Force. Go buy it if you want all the features! |
Q:
Where can I get the SvenCo-op .fgd file from? A: It comes with the SvenCo-op v2.0 installer... look for "sven-coop.fgd" in your Half-Life\SvenCoop\ folder. |
Q:
Can you play through the normal, Half-Life single-player maps (by Valve)
in Sven Co-op? A: Yes. For more information, check the Single-Player Maps page. |
Q:
I've been playing through the Valve single-player maps, and at some point,
I can't get the the next map for some reason/I try to go to the next map,
and end up in a previous map!/etc. A: Check the Single-Player Maps page. if the problem you encountered is not mentioned on the page, please E-mail me the file name of the map and info on the problem. |
Q:
The Single-Player maps are too hard/too easy. A: Extract the appropriate spmaps- zip file (in SvenCoop\ dir) to your SvenCoop\ folder. The default skill level is Medium. |
Q:
Can you make a Gamespy tab for Sven Co-op? A: There already is one. It's included with v1.3 and above (svencoop.qst in svencoop\ dir). |
Q:
Why did you remove cheats? A: They were dramatically reducing the need for co-op play, allowing people to mess up maps (as well as their teammates), and, most importantly, allowing people to crash servers at will. You can only use cheats when "maxplayers" is set to "1", however. The cheats are: godmode 1 (or 0), giveall, and ghost 1 (or 0). |
Q:
Why did you remove friendly-fire? A: Team-killing was a really big problem on net servers - Most games ended up just being deathmatch with monsters. |
Q:
What's the "Chubby Code"? A: You get the Chubby Code at the end of SvenCoop1.bsp, if you kept Chubby the Chumtoad (purple toad-like thing) alive throughout the map (the code will be visible between the two health chargers in the Barney room). The code needs to be entered at the start of SvenCoop2, or else Chubby is dead at the start of the map (and since he's sort of the hero of the story ;), you won't be able to complete the final map without him). |
Q:
Why does Barney try to kill you in SvenCoop1.bsp? A: The players are sort of the bad-guys in SvenCoop1 (well, whether they're really bad or not depends on the individual player, but either way, they're working for the bad-guys (though G-man didn't give them much choice in the matter)). You're there to steal a strange crystal, and it was Barney's job to try to stop you. |
Q:
Why did you use Sven Co-op for the name of the mod? It's stupid! A: I know that Sven Co-op is a stupid name :). It was a temporary name for a map (SvenCoop1.bsp, mod was originally based entirely on the map), and I never thought of a better name... (P.S., in case anyone wondered, even if I knew of a better one, not going to change the name in the future, too late now... anyway, it's not bad once you get used to it :). |
Q:
There's some monsters with different skins that don't shoot at me! A: Sven Co-op contains friendly monsters which are set by the mappers, don't shoot them, they're there to help you. Check your hud, friendly monsters info will show in green text, enemys in red. |
Q:
My game keeps crashing with this error message! S_Findname: Out of sfx_t A: Then the game reaches 512 sounds it causes the engine to stop. This isn't TOO much of a problem with dedicated servers as you can rejoin after the crash, but if you are hosting a non dedicated server it will dump all the clients. This is our top priority to fix at the moment, that is if we can actually find a work. Good news is that Valve say they may change the engine to clear the sounds instead of stopping the game when 512 sounds are reached, but we'll have to wait till the next patch to see. |
Q:
Someone is standing still in a doorway and no-one can get past! A: Use the VGUI to vote kill the player, or if that fails drag them out of the way by hitting them with your crowbar and walking backwards. |
Q:
Why sometimes can I freely Gauss jump and overtimes it doesn't work? A: Gauss jumping is set in the maps .cfg file, as it was a multiplayer only feature it would spoil the gameplay in most singleplayer maps. |
Q:
Where can I find more custom maps? A: Look on www.mg386.com for the largest collection of Sven Co-op maps |
